VPN vs MPLS: What’s the Difference? | FS Community

Nov 11, 2014 Difference between MPLS,MPLS L2 VPN and - Cisco Community MPLS L3 VPN provides VPN solutions i.e. customers to maintain their private networks in the Service Provider cloud using VRF's. This way, customers cannot access the prefixes of other customers but only the prefixes / networks from remote sites. Multiprotocol Label Switching - Wikipedia Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) is a routing technique in telecommunications networks that directs data from one node to the next based on short path labels rather than long network addresses, thus avoiding complex lookups in a routing table and speeding traffic flows. The labels identify virtual links (paths) between distant nodes rather than endpoints. Configuring Layer 2 MPLS VPN Apr 12, 2017

Why MPLS? VPN-IP addresses are used by the routing protocols, but do not appear in headers of IP packets. Need a way to forward traffic along routes to VPN-IP addresses. MPLS decouples forwarding from the destination information.

BGP / MPLS Layer3 VPNs | Noction Mar 13, 2018 MPLS - Windstream

For Layer 3 MPLS VPNs we use MPBGP to send the traffic from one site to the other. why do we need BGP for this, what does BGP do that the other IGP's cant , as you can use VRF's with Eigrp? In this situation we use BGP's VPNv4 address family (which uses 96bits) to tunnel the traffic.
